Yes, you read the title right. The folks at MSN and Yahoo have teamed up to make both their IM protocols interoperable. People from Yahoo and MSN are now able to chat with one another.

Shortly after the news broke out, Scott Werndorfer of Cerulean Studios released a statement which in part said: "We're very excited about this, as we've always been big supporters of interoperability in any form. [and] [w]e are working on ensuring that Trillian users can take advantage of this new functionality ASAP!"

It will be interesting to see how this affects the rest of the IM market. Could it be possible that AIM/ICQ will someday interoperate with the likes of Google Talk and MSN/YIM? Hopefully so!

IM interoperability was a major driving force behind the creation of the popular Trillian™ chat client.

I dont really use MSN, so this will be nice, and mean one less plugin that has to be used. That also means 1 less time to start up :P But only slightly.

Thats fine as long as you mean you are just going to use your Yahoo account to talk to MSN accounts.

If they merge the two plugins I think people will be upset, just like how they didnt like it being done with AIM and ICQ ... which rumor has it they are being split back up anyways finally.

Yes, but to everyone that gets these new messengers, must note that they have to sign up for the beta of adding msn to yahoo and vise versa at different sites in order to be able to do the task. It was kind of weird. I mean it didnt cost anything to sign up for it. But if you already have the messengers... Why should we have to go thru that to get it ?

I dont really use ICQ (at all) but i hate that it just sits there sinc ei have to use AIM. So hopefully this split is true. (drool)
